The accident occurred around 8:17 a.m. on November 13th, when a car driven by Emmanuel Garza of Rio Hondo collided with a semi-trailer being driven by 60-year-old Dickie M. Gross of Rifle, Colorado.

Gross, who was traveling east on Farm-to-Market Road 2223, failed to yield the right-of-way as he attempted to turn onto U.S. Highway 87. Garza struck the rig’s semi-trailer after Gross pulled out in front of him.

Garza was taken to the Scenic Mountain Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Gross escaped the collision without injury.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash. Troopers have not indicated if any citations or charges will be issued in connection with the accident.
