Two Texas motorists were tragically killed this past weekend, when the Nissan Versa in which they were travelling was involved in a collision with an 18-wheeler near Midland.
Nissan Versa Collided with Back of 18-Wheeler
The wreck occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017, when a tractor-trailer travelling west on State Highway 158, slowed to make a right turn. The 2013 Nissan Versa collided with the back of the rig.
The driver of the Nissan, 24-year-old Orlando F. Oviedo of Rio Grande City, and his passenger, 24-year-old Diego Pena of Roma, were killed in the crash.
The 18-wheeler driver was not injured.
41 Fatalities on Midland County Roads This Year
The deaths of Oviedo and Pena marked the 40th and 41st traffic-related fatalities in Midland County’s this year.
According to the Reporter-Telegram, the year stand’s as Midland’s deadliest since 2014, when 44 people were killed in 18-wheeler crashes and other motor vehicle accidents on the county’s roads and highways.
Eighteen people died in Midland County traffic accidents in 2016, while 30 died in 2015.
