15 Hospitalized After East Bexar County Charter Bus Crash

 

Fifteen people were rushed to the hospital Sunday afternoon, following a charter bus crash in east Bexar County, Texas.

Charter Bus Was Attempting to Make a U-Turn

According to the Bexar County Sherriff’s Office, the July 26th accident occurred around 5:15 p.m., as the charter bus was heading south on 1604 on its way to a church retreat. The driver attempted to make a U-turn at Schuwirth Road south of I-10 but was t-boned by a Honda Accord that was traveling north along 1604.

The bus then collided with a pole.

Injured Passengers Included Several Children

All 14 people aboard the bus and the driver of the passenger vehicle were transported to area hospitals. Three victims suffered severe injuries, including one person who was airlifted from the scene due to limited ambulance capacity.

Authorities in Bexar County have not identified the church or the charter bus company involved in the crash. However, they have confirmed that several children were aboard.

Fortunately, none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Church Charter Bus Driver Faulted in Bexar County Crash

According to KSA-TV, the intersection where yesterday’s charter bus crash occurred is relatively new and has yet to be outfitted with traffic lights. Nevertheless, authorities have said the bus driver was at fault.

Although the crash remains under investigation, the Bexar County Sherriff’s Office indicated it would not be filing any criminal charges in connection with the accident.
