More than a dozen people were hurt Friday morning when a Greyhound Bus crashed into an embankment along Interstate 95 North in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Greyhound Bus was En Route to New York City from Atlanta

The August 6th accident occurred shortly after 11:30 .m, as the Greyhound Bus was on its way to New York City from Atlanta, Georgia, with 43 people aboard. For reasons that remain unclear, the bus veered to the left, went off the road, and came to rest in an embankment not far from Route 639 in Caroline County.

According to the Virginia State Police, no other vehicles were involved.

The wreck closed two lanes and the left shoulder near mile marker 115 in Caroline County, between the Ladysmith and Thornburg exits. The resulting backup extended for more than 7 miles.

15 People Hospitalized with Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

All of the crash victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. So far, there’s no word on their current condition, and it’s unclear if any are still hospitalized.

Another bus was called in to take the remaining passengers to their destination.

Friday’s Greyhound Bus accident remains under investigation.

“Greyhound can confirm an incident involving schedule 1046 occurred today in Fredericksburg, VA en route from Atlanta to New York,” the company said in a statement released Friday afternoon. “Our top priority is the safety of our passengers and driver. We have provided a relief bus for customers and continue to work closely with local response teams to assist those affected.”
