A 90-year-old woman from Frankston, Texas died tragically yesterday, after she was struck by a runaway 18-wheeler.

Unoccupied 18-Wheeler Rolled Away, Struck Pedestrian Crossing Highway

According to the Frankston Police Department, the unoccupied rig was parked at the Valero gas station in the 400 block of Pine Street – near the Dairy Queen — when it started rolling away shortly after 2:00 p.m. on July 25th.

The 18-wheeler hit a power pole before striking Mary Morgan as she crossed U.S. Highway 175.

“Supposedly, she was at the tire shop getting a tire fixed. She was going to go across the street to Dairy Queen to get lunch,” one witness told KLTV.

Morgan was walking along a gas strip when the 18-wheeler rolled backwards and hit her.

“She didn’t hear it, I guess,” the witness continued.

The truck then hit another pole before coming to a stop when it collided with a house, causing  only minor damage to the building.

Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s not clear what caused the rig to start rolling away.

The Frankston Police Department continues to investigate the accident in cooperation with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
