Deadly Industrial Accident Tragically Kills 2 Spitzer Industries Workers Near Houston Ship Channel

Two workers died tragically last night, following an industrial accident in east Harris County, Texas, near the Houston Ship Channel.

Workers Were Trapped When Heavy Equipment Flipped

The Harris County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call from the Spitzer Industries Waterfront Facility, located at 13863 Industrial Road in the Brown Industrial Park, around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4th.

A piece of heavy equipment apparently flipped, trapping both men.

One of the workers died at the scene. A Life Flight helicopter transferred the second worker to a Houston hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Deadly Accident at Spitzer Industries Remains Under Investigation

Headquartered in Houston, Spitzer Industries is a custom steel fabricator of specialized equipment and systems for energy industry customers. The Waterfront Facility “provides direct access to the Houston Ship Channel, enabling worldwide shipment of large components and modules.”

Thursday night’s deadly industrial accident remains under investigation. Authorities have so far not identified the equipment involved or revealed what might have caused it to flip.

Homicide and crime scene investigators were deployed to the scene, which is apparently standard protocol in incidents of this nature.

Spitzer Industries Accident Second Deadly Incident This Week

Last night’s tragedy was the Houston Metro Region’s second deadly industrial accident this week, and the fourth incident in less than a month.

Another worker died Tuesday morning, following an explosion at the KMCO chemical plant in Crosby, just 30 miles from the Spitzer Industries Waterfront Facility. Two workers also suffered severe burns and other critical injuries in that incident.

Fortunately, no one was hurt during a fire at ExxonMobil’s Baytown refinery on March 16th.

Hundreds of people, however, sought medical attention for nose bleeds and other symptoms likely related to a massive tank fire that erupted at the ITC Deer Park petrochemical plant just a day later.
