18-Wheeler Pushes Car From I-10 East Freeway Bridge, Killing 4-Year-Old Child

A 4-year-old girl died tragically yesterday morning, soon after an 18-wheeler pushed her family’s sedan from a bridge along Interstate 10 in Houston, Texas.

18-Wheeler Struck Car While Changing Lanes

The deadly crash occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m., as both vehicles were heading west on the East Freeway, near the San Jacinto River.

The 18-wheeler apparently struck the sedan while moving into the adjacent lane. The force of the collision pushed the car into the guardrail, causing it to flip and plunge from the bridge into the dry riverbed below.

The little girl was in the back seat but was not using a seat belt or child safety seat. Emergency crews found her under the car and she died at the scene.

Firefighters had to cut her father from the vehicle. He was airlifted to a Houston hospital in critical condition.

Family Moved to Houston for a Better Life

Her mother suffered minor injuries but received treatment at the accident scene.

“The mom, of course, she is very distraught,” Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eduardo Rivera told local media outlets. “She has church members here at the scene to console her, her husband is in the hospital.”

According to Rivera, the family had only moved from Honduras to Houston a month ago. They were hoping to give the little girl a better life.

The 18-wheeler driver is cooperating with the accident investigation.

So far, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has not decided if anyone will face charges in connection with the crash.
