Cotton Gin Employee Was Buried in Seed

First responders were called out to Lubbock Cotton Growers, a cotton gin located at 11611 County Road 2500, around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 16th.

According to media reports, the 62-year-old man was buried by cottonseed while standing in the trailer of an 18-wheeler. He remained trapped for 10-to-15 minutes before he was finally pulled from the seed unresponsive.

Accident 2nd Incident at a Texas Cotton Gin in as Many Days

The tragic accident at Lubbock Cotton Growers came just one day after at an explosion at the Flower Grove Co-op Cotton Gin in Ackerly, Texas, sent three employees to area hospitals.

One worker taken to Lamesa Hospital was released that same day. But two others were admitted to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where they’re being treated for second- and third-degree burns affecting the upper portion of their bodies.

A preliminary investigation indicated the explosion resulted from an undetected butane leak. All three victims were in the facility’s office at the time, and it’s believed butane fumes ignited when one of the workers turned on a light switch.
