The May 3rd crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. near the Texas-Louisiana state line. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of a 1995 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was headed west on I-10 but failed to control his speed while approaching slower moving traffic.
The truck veered left and hit a concrete barrier, setting off a chain-reaction crash involving five other vehicles, including a 2014 Ford pickup, a 2019 Alfa Romeo SUV, a 2020 Cub Cadet truck tractor semi-trailer, a 2013 Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer, and a 2017 Dodge pickup.
Four people were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment, including the driver of the Ford pickup, the driver and a passenger in the Alfa Romeo, and a passenger in the Dodge pickup.
Trucker Cited for Failing to Drive in Single Lane
So far, authorities have not disclosed the nature of the injuries. It’s also not clear if any of the victims remain hospitalized.
The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured and was cited for, “failing to drive in a single lane.”
I-10 westbound remained closed for several hours near the state line as first responders worked to clear the area. By 7:30 p.m., crews had managed to reopen a single lane.
