Plainview Truck Accident Tragically Leaves 2 Dead, Another Critically Injured

 

Two people are dead and another is being treated for critical injuries, after a flatbed truck lost its trailer yesterday near Plainview, Texas.

Runaway Trailer Struck Westbound Passenger Car

Fire and rescue crews responded to reports of a crash just east of the intersection at West U.S. Highway 70 and Sun Road shortly after 3:00 p.m. on June 10th.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the flatbed truck was heading east on 70 when its trailer disconnected and crossed into the westbound lanes of the highway. The runaway trailer then proceeded to strike a passenger car that was traveling west.

Couple Died at Hospital, Daughter Suffered Incapacitating Injuries

Emergency personnel responding to the Plainview truck accident used the jaws of life to extract three occupants from the passenger car. A helicopter subsequently flew a 53-year-old woman and her 60-year-old husband to University Medical Center in Lubbock. Sadly, they both died upon their arrival.

An ambulance transferred an 18-year-old woman identified as their daughter to Covenant Health Plainview. She apparently suffered incapacitating injuries and is listed in critical condition.

The truck driver was not hurt.

Mechanical Problem Behind Deadly Plainview Truck Accident

According to the Department of Transportation, some type of mechanical failure allowed the trailer to disconnect from the truck.

While troopers have so far not charged anyone in connection with the Plainville truck accident, the fatal crash remains under investigation.
