Galveston Oil Tank Explosion Injures 2 at Pelican Island Storage Terminal | Texas Explosion Lawyer

Two workers were rushed to the hospital yesterday afternoon, following an oil tank explosion at a storage facility in Galveston, Texas.

Explosion Erupted at Pelican Island Storage Terminal

The May 19th explosion at the Pelican Island Storage Terminal, located near Texas Clipper Road and just east of the Texas A&M University Galveston campus, erupted shortly before 3:30 p.m., as welding took place at or near a tank holding 2 million gallons of heavy crude oil.

The two unidentified workers were transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch for treatment. Although authorities have not disclosed the nature of their injuries or current condition, media reports indicate the injuries are not life-threatening.

Texas A&M University Galveston Ordered to Shelter-in-Place

A shelter-in-place order was issued for the Texas A&M University Galveston campus while crews from the Galveston Fire Department used foam cannons to extinguish the resulting fire. The blaze was brought under control within an hour and the order lifted around 4:30 p.m.

So far, it’s not clear what caused yesterday’s tank explosion. The incident remains under investigation.
