5 People – Including Illinois Mom and 3 Children – Die Tragically in Multiple 18-Wheeler Crash Near Mt. Pleasant, Texas

Five people, including four members of a single Illinois family, died tragically last week, when multiple 18-wheelers failed to stop for a single-vehicle crash along I-30 near Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Deadly Crash Involved 5 Semis, 1 Toyota Minivan

The initial accident occurred around 7:15 p.m. at mile-marker 162, backing up traffic in the eastbound lanes of the interstate.

Three 18-wheelers failed to stop for that accident about an hour later, clipping one another.

A fourth 18-wheeler then plowed into a 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan, which ended up sandwiched between the third and fourth trucks.

The impact of the crash was heard throughout the surrounding area, with some people reporting that they felt the ground shake.

“It was a very loud thunderous bang, and I was probably 1000 or 1,500 yards away in a place of business with glass,” one witness told KLTV.

Truck Driver, Mom and Three Young Children Pronounced Dead at Scene

The driver of a 2018 International semi-truck, a 64-year-old woman from Pikesville, Tennessee, died in the crash.

Four passengers in the minivan – a 41-year-old mother from Savoy, Illinois, her two sons, ages 9 and 6, and her 2-year-old daughter – were also pronounced dead at the scene.

The father was flown by air ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Tyler, Texas, where he was listed in stable condition.

The drivers of the three other rigs were all taken to Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant, where they were treated for minor injuries.
