Junction Resources Explosion: What’s Known
The September 26th explosion erupted at approximately 9:36 a.m. at the “Catfish” disposal well located along Farm-to-Market Road 846 in the community of Knott, near the Howard-Martin County line. Emergency responders from Martin, Ackerly, Lenorah, Stanton and Howard counties were called to the scene and spent several hours working to extinguish the resulting fire.
Martin County Sheriff Brad Ingram later confirmed the worker’s death. Three others were rushed to the hospital with critical burns, including one person who had to be airlifted.
Investigation Into Martin County Explosion Underway
While authorities have yet to pinpoint an official cause of the Junction Resources explosion, the two lawsuits filed by Zehl & Associates state that hot work, including welding operations, was being conducted at the saltwater disposal well and nearby tank battery. The ongoing work also included crane operations, which were used to secure the tank battery apparatus in place during the hot work activities.
Zehl & Associates continues to investigate the Junction Resouces explosion and has assembled a team of the best cause and origin investigators, engineers, and safety experts in the country to identify what went wrong and how the tragedy could and should have been prevented,
