Dallas Police Search for Driver After Fatal I-35 18-Wheeler Accident Leaves Elderly Woman Dead

An elderly woman died tragically yesterday morning, after an 18-wheeler overturned along I-35 North near downtown Dallas, Texas.

Now, a search is underway for a third driver who may have triggered the fatal crash.

Crash Victim Was Pinned Inside Wreckage

Dallas County deputies responded to reports of an 18-wheeler accident along I-35 over the Trinity River around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24th.

When they arrived on scene, a 2006 orange Freightliner was on its side, its trailer on top of a red Nissan Versa. Once tow trucks removed the trailer from the Nissan, rescue personnel discovered the 75-year-old victim’s remains pinned inside the wreckage.

Third Motorist Fled Scene of Fatal 18-Wheeler Accident

The 18-wheeler driver later told police that another vehicle had veered into his lane, cutting him off. Although he attempted to brake and swerve to the left, the driver lost control of his rig and overturned.

The other motorist did not stop and apparently fled the scene of the crash.

Dallas Among Nation’s Most Dangerous Cities for Drivers

Unfortunately, accidents caused by negligent and reckless drivers are an all-too frequent occurrence along the roads and highways in and around Dallas.

In fact, a recent study commissioned by Allstate Insurance placed Dallas in the bottom 15% of cities for safe-driving records, based on an analysis of insurance claims from 200 major U.S. cities.

The study found, among other things, that Dallas drivers experience a crash every seven years on average, meaning motorists are about 46% more likely have an accident than the average U.S. driver.

Overall, the Lone Star State leads the nation in traffic-related deaths. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, at least one person has died on the state’s roads and highways every day for the past 19 years, with motor vehicle accidents killing an average of 10 people per day.
