A Hurricane Ida evacuee on his way home died tragically last Thursday afternoon when an 18-wheeler triggered a 9-vehicle pileup along I-10 East in Louisiana.

Fatal Truck Crash Occurred Amid 13-Mile Traffic Jam

The September 9th accident occurred at a choke point near the West Baton Rouge-Iberville Parish line, where a 13-mile traffic jam had brought vehicles headed inbound to Baton Rouge to a near stop. According to the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the 18-wheeler driver failed to stop and slammed into several vehicles before bursting into flames.

Photos posted to social media by the sheriff’s office show thick smoke billowing from the big rig and another car mangled and on fire.

I-10 Truck Wreck Killed Metairie Man, Injured Several Family Members

The deceased victim has been identified as a 29-year-old man from Metairie

His father and brother were treated for burns at a nearby hospital and later released. Three additional family members traveling in a separate vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The crash also resulted in the deaths of three dogs.

Alabama 18-Wheeler Driver Charged with Vehicular Homicide

The truck driver, identified as a man from Mobile, Alabama, has been charged with vehicular homicide and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. He also faces six counts of vehicular injury.

Last Thursday’s fatal truck accident along I-10 in Louisiana remains under investigation.
