Georgia Packaging Plant Explosion Leaves Several Workers Injured, 1 Seriously

An explosion at a packaging plant in Social Circle, Georgia, injured several workers on Thursday morning, including one person who was rushed to an Atlanta hospital for treatment.

Explosion Reported at Granite Packaging Plant

The Social Circle Fire Department, Social Circle police, and Walton County Fire Rescue received reports of an explosion at Granite Packaging LLC, a manufacturing and warehouse facility located at 1 Leggett Road, sometime on the morning of July 23rd.

Several other departments assisted at the scene, including Walton County fire and hazmat, Walton County sheriff’s deputies, and the Georgia State Patrol.

Injured Worker Airlifted to Atlanta Hospital

While local media reports only noted that several workers were hurt, authorities confirmed that one person was undergoing treatment for undisclosed injuries at a hospital in Atlanta.

“We had a report of a small explosion at a factory in Social Circle. Social Circle Fire, Police, and Walton EMS crews arrived on the scene to find the building evacuated and a report of injuries,” said Social Circle Mayor David Keene. “One person was flown by medieval to Atlanta, and the others were treated and released on scene.”

So far, officials have not indicated what caused yesterday’s explosion, nor have they identified the hospitalized worker or commented on the nature of his injuries.
