Utility Truck Crash Injures 5 on Fort Bend Tollway, Including 2 Children

Authorities in Fort Bend County, Texas, are investigating a catastrophic accident involving a utility truck that sent five people to the hospital yesterday afternoon, including two critically injured children.

Utility Truck Rear-Ended Car on Fort Bend Tollway

Emergency crews responded to reports of a chain-reaction crash on the Fort Bend Tollway near Lake Olympia shortly before 6:00 p.m. on August 4th.

According to the Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Constable’s office, a Porsche SUV was being followed by relatives in the northbound lanes of the tollway when the Porsche suffered a flat tire. Both vehicles had slowed to about 15 mph and were in the right lane when the utility truck rear-ended the second vehicle near FM 224.

That car then collided with the back of the Porsche.

Two Children Airlifted from Accident Scene

The second vehicle was occupied by a family of four, including a mother and father in the front seats and their two boys, ages 4 and 8, in the back.

Both children were airlifted from the accident scene. The 8-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but his little brother is listed in serious condition.

The boys’ parents and the driver of the Porsche were also taken to the hospital. So far, authorities have not commented on the nature of their injuries or their current condition.

The utility truck driver was not injured.

The northbound lanes of the Fort Bend Tollway remained closed for several hours Tuesday night to allow investigators access to the accident scene.  So far, they have confirmed that there were no child safety seats in the family’s car.
