Enterprise Gas Pipeline Explosion Injures 4 in Martin County, Texas

A ditching truck hit a high-pressure gas line in Martin County, Texas, yesterday afternoon, triggering a massive explosion that sent four workers to area hospitals.

Ditch Truck Hit Enterprise Gas Line

The July 28th explosion erupted around noon, as a crew working for an unidentified ditch company was digging for a new pipeline in the southern portion of Martin County, near Highway 137 and Private Road D3800.

Apparently, their ditch truck hit an existing high-pressure gas line owned and operated by Enterprise Products. The line exploded, shooting a plume of thick black smoke and flames into the air. The resulting fire quickly engulfed the truck.

Enterprise Pipeline Explosion Left 1 Worker with Critical Burns

Private vehicles transferred the four injured workers to Martin County Hospital, where three were treated and released. The fourth suffered critical burns and was later airlifted to a burn unit in Lubbock.

While authorities have not released any additional information on the burned worker’s condition, he is expected to recover from his injuries.

The fire was finally brought under control around 2:30 p.m. after Enterprise was able to access a shut-off valve in an isolated location. The gas was allowed to burn itself off throughout the remainder of the afternoon.
