Charges Filed After Drunk Driving Accident Leaves 3 Dead in Northwest Houston

A 47-year-old man has been charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter following a drunk driving crash that killed three people this past Sunday morning in northwest Houston, Texas.

4th Victim of Houston Drunk Driving Crash Fighting for Life

The October 25th crash occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m. near the intersection of FM 529 and Fairview Street. According to the Harris County Sherriff’s Department, Camilo Morejon was driving his silver Honda Accord at a high rate of speed when he slammed into a black F-150 pickup truck that was turning into a gas station.

Three passengers in the Honda died at the scene, including Morejon’s girlfriend.

He and the other driver were rushed to the hospital with serious and critical injuries. Morejon remains listed in serious condition, but the pickup truck driver is fighting for his life.

Facebook Live Video Shows Driver Drinking Moments Before Collision

According to Harris County prosecutor Sean Teare, a Facebook live video shows Morejon drinking behind the wheel just moments before the crash. He can also be heard saying in Spanish that he drives better when he drinks.

The video bears a time-stamp of 7:47 a.m. The fatal collision occurred about six minutes later.

“It’s very rare that we see actions of the defendant that close in time to a horrific crash like that, but it’s what happens. It’s what goes on moments before lives are lost,” Teare told reporters yesterday afternoon.

Drunk Driving Charges Carry Maximum Sentence of 80 Years

Morejon faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted. He will likely face an additional count of intoxication manslaughter if the truck driver dies of his injuries.

Harris County prosecutors are also investigating whether any after-hours bars served Morejon before the accident.

“We believe there are probably three or four bars that are around the area we believe they were, and we are in the process today of going to those locations determining which ones were contributing factors to this crash,” Teare continued.
