Pipe Line Accident at Cabot Oil & Gas Drilling Site in Pennsylvania Injures 3 Contractors

Three contractors were injured last Thursday, following an accident at a natural gas drilling site in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The incident was reported shortly after 9:00 p.m. on January 5th, at a well pad located on Beaver Meadow Road in Harford Township, Susquehanna County.

Contractors Were Struck by a Pipe

The site was being operated by the Cabot Oil & Gas Drilling Corp., which currently operates more than 179,000 net acres in the Marcellus Shale, mostly in Susquehanna County.

Local media reports indicate that the unidentified contractors were struck by a pipe.

“We just saw the ambulance and the fire trucks go by and we were wondering what was going on but we had no clue,” Julie O’Dell of Harford Township told reporters.

First Responders Worked in Sub-Zero Temperatures to Lift Injured Workers from Well Floor

Responders from the Harford Township Volunteer Fire Department and other agencies arriving on the scene had to contend with snow and sub-zero temperatures.

A basket and ropes were used to rescue the injured contractors from the rig floor and lift them to the ground.

Rescue crews spent about an hour at the site.

Two of the injured were taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The third contractor was transferred to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, New York.

All have since been released from the hospital. No other details about their injuries have been disclosed.
