2 Tragically Killed When Cement Truck Loses Load in Humble, Texas

A cement truck spilled its load last Friday morning, triggering a violent crash that tragically left two motorists dead in Humble, Texas.

Cement Truck Had Just Left Lattimore Materials Plant

The February 14th accident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m., just after the cement truck left the Lattimore Materials Corporation plant in northeast Harris County, about 20 miles outside of Houston.

The truck apparently began leaking wet mortar in the 15700 block of Old Humble Road, creating a hazard. A northbound white SUV proceeded to drive over the wet concrete, causing the driver to lose control and jump the median. The SUV then struck a red sedan that had been heading south.

The drivers of both passenger vehicles, a 50-year-old woman and 19-year-old man, died at the accident scene. The cement truck driver was not hurt, did stop to render aid, and is reportedly cooperating with authorities.

Lattimore Materials Trucks Have History of Accidents, Violations

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, it appears the part of the truck holding the cement was turning the wrong way as the driver navigated a corner.

Switzerland-based Lattimore Materials  has offices around the world, including a trucking company located in Texas.

Records from the U.S. Department of Transportation indicate that Lattimore’s trucks had been involved in a total of nine accidents before last Friday’s fatal crash, resulting in four injuries. According to KPRC TV, the company’s trucks have also been cited for 226 violations, including multiple violations for not properly securing a load.
