Two people were killed Monday after a large crane struck an SUV on State Highway 137 in Glasscock County, Texas.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2026 on State Highway 137 at County Road 110.
According to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2014 Grove Crane traveling northbound on State Highway 137 failed to control its speed, striking the rear of a 2016 Toyota RAV4 that was also traveling northbound. The impact sent the RAV4 spinning counter-clockwise across the roadway before it came to rest facing west.
The 71-year-old driver and 73-year-old passenger in the Toyota, both from Big Lake, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the crane was not injured.
DPS Investigating Fatal Glasscock County Crash
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash. Preliminary information from the Texas Highway Patrol indicates that the crane driver failed to control speed at the time of the crash.
Because the investigation remains ongoing, additional information about the circumstances surrounding the crash may become available.
