Deadly Accident Claims Two Lives at Concho Resources Drilling Site in New Mexico’s Permian Basin

 

Two people died tragically Wednesday afternoon, following an apparent industrial accident on a Permian Basin drilling site in Eddy County, New Mexico.

Victims Found Unconscious on Concho Resources Lease

The March 4th incident occurred sometime before 3:00 p.m. at an operation run by Concho Resources located just of country road 722 and US 285.

According to the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, both men were found unconscious at the site and neither were breathing. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later identified the deceased as a 28-year-old man from Roswell and a 24-year-old man from Carlsbad. At this time, it’s not clear if they were employed by Concho Resources or an outside contractor.

Cause of Eddy County Oilfield Accident Remains Unknown

Detectives from the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office are still working to determine the nature of the accident and the cause of death.

“There are numerous hazards. There are high powerlines. There is moving machinery, heavy equipment, poisonous gases,” the Sheriff’s Office told KRQE.  “It can be dangerous for people working there and people traveling through that area.”

The U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration is also investigating the Concho Resources accident.
