Calpine Company Plant Explosion Leaves 1 Dead in Corpus Christi, Texas


One person is dead following an explosion at an energy-generating plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, last Friday night.

Natural Gas Explosion Erupted at Calpine Corpus Christi Energy Center

First responders were called to a fire at the Calpine Company’s Corpus Christi Energy Center, located at 3952 Buddy Lawrence Drive and I-37, shortly before 6:30 p.m. on June 18th.

According to the Port of Corpus Christi Police, the blaze resulted from a natural gas explosion.

HAZMAT was also dispatched to the scene, but authorities maintained that there were no outside impacts.

Although initial reports indicated that one person had been injured, police later confirmed that the individual had, in fact, died.

It does not appear that anyone else was hurt.

So far, it’s not known what caused last Friday’s natural gas explosion at the Calpine Company plant in Corpus Christi. An investigation is underway.
