Plant Explosion Severely Burns Worker at Esterline Defense Technologies Facility in East Camden, Arkansas

 

A worker suffered severe burns yesterday morning, when an explosion rocked the Esterline Defense Technologies plant in East Camden, Arkansas.

Injured Worker Airlifted to Hospital After Arkansas Defense Plant Explosion

Esterlines’ East Camden defense plant is located in the Highland Industrial Park, along Arkansas 274.

Employees reported the December 18th explosion shortly after 10:30 a.m. Fortunately, an onsite response team contained the resulting fire within an hour.

Emergency medical personnel airlifted the injured worker to an area hospital. So far, however, authorities have not issued an update on the victim’s current condition.

East Camden Defense Plant Produces Torpedo Decoy Systems, Infrared Decoy Flares

Based in Bellevue, Washington, Esterline operates facilities in 13 states and 10 countries.

According to the company’s website, its produces combustible ordnance and countermeasure for the United States military and allied armed forces.

The East Camden plant manufactures torpedo decoy systems and infrared decoy flares to protect aircraft from heat-seeking missiles. The 175,000 square-foot campus also includes facilities for research and development, testing and storage.

Two Previous Plant Explosions Injured 8 Esterline Employees

Unfortunately, Tuesday’s incident was not the first to injure workers at the Arkansas defense plant.

In May 2016, for example, an accident with combustible materials triggered an explosion that burned two employees.

Six additional Esterline Defense Technologies’ workers were hurt in June 2009, when an explosion erupted in an out-building.
