Our Undefeated Houston Explosion Lawyers are monitoring the situation. Here’s what we know at this time.
Blast Occurred in Boiler Room Near Top Floor of Hotel
The blast occurred at approximately 11:08 a.m. inside the boiler room near the top of the Holiday Inn Express & Staybridge Suites project located at 1319 Texas Avenue at Austin Street, two blocks west of Daikin Park.
According to Houston Fire Department officials, the force of the explosion collapsed the top floor, blowing out windows and siding near the roof level, sending debris raining down onto the street below.
The blast was so powerful that nearby workers said their buildings shook and described hearing a “loud thump.”
At Least 6 Workers Reportedly Burned or Injured in Explosion
Several workers on site were injured in the blast. Ambulances rushed victims to Memorial Hermann for treatment, though the exact number of injured and their conditions remain unconfirmed at this time.
Early news reports indicate that at least six people suffered facial burns. Officials also stated that all of the injured are believed to be construction workers.
Houston Police advised people to stay away from the downtown area, with crews at work on Texas Avenue, Caroline, San Jacinto and Austin Streets.
Inspectors are now on site and will determine the cause of the explosion, with multiple agencies assisting.
