18-Wheeler Triggers Pile-up on Loop 20, Tragically Killing Laredo Motorist

 

A motorist died tragically yesterday morning, after an 18-wheeler triggered a multi-vehicle crash along Loop 20 in Laredo, Texas.

18-Wheeler Veered into Oncoming Traffic

The September 11th accident occurred around 8:00 a.m., as the rig was heading south in the 5000 block of Bob Bullock Loop. For reasons that remain unclear, the 18-wheeler veered into the northbound lanes of the highway and collided head-on with oncoming traffic.

Three other vehicles were caught up in the crash, including a green Ford F150 pick-up truck, a Dodge Challenger, and a black Volkswagen sport utility vehicle.

According to the Laredo Police, the 60-year old man driving the Dodge Challenger died at the accident scene.

Laredo City Official Among Those Injured in Loop 20 Crash

Paramedics transferred several others to Laredo Medical Center for treatment, including Co-Interim City Manager Rosario Cabello and her son. The City of Laredo later issued a statement indicating that Cabello was “in good spirits and is expected to make a full recovery soon.”

So far, officials have not commented on the other crash victims or revealed the nature of their injuries.

The accident remains under investigation, and Laredo Police are working to determine exactly what caused the 18-wheeler to leave its lane.
