18-Wheeler Crosses I-10 Median in Louisiana, Setting Off Fatal Chain-Reaction Crash Near Vinton

A Louisiana man died tragically Tuesday night, after an 18-wheeler triggered a violent chain-reaction crash along Interstate 10, about 4.5 miles outside of Vinton.

Eastbound 18-Wheeler Struck 2 Vehicles Heading West on I-10

Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the fatal accident on July 16th, shortly after 6:00 p.m.

The 18-wheeler driven by a 34-year-old North Carolina man was headed east on I-10, but inexplicably ran off the left side of the road and across the center median.

The rig then entered the westbound lanes of the interstate, where it proceeded to strike a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck and 2011 Chevrolet SUV.

The SUV driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the crash scene. Police later identified the deceased as a 54-year-old man from DeQuincy.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 24-year-old man from Damon, Texas, sustained moderate injuries and received treatment at a Beaumont hospital.

Paramedics also transferred the 18-wheeler driver and his two juvenile passengers, ages 8 and 3, to a hospital in Lake Charles, where they were treated for minor injuries.

Charges Pending Against 18-Wheeler Driver

So far, it’s not clear why the 18-wheeler left the roadway and crossed onto I-10 West.

Louisiana State Police apparently obtained toxicology samples from the driver, and are awaiting the results. Although the I-10 18-Wheeler crash remains under investigation, authorities indicated that charges are pending against the trucker.
