At least three people were injured when an explosion erupted at a Mont Bevieu, Texas, natural gas liquids manufacturing plant this morning.
Explosion Rocks ONEOK MBC Plant
The blast occurred around 11:00 a.m. CST at a Maintenance, Blending, and Conversion (MBC) facility on State Highway 146 near State Highway 99 in Chambers County, just northeast of Houston. The plant, operated by midstream energy company ONEOK, is part of a natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionating and storage complex.
According to local reports, the explosion shook the town of Mont Belvieu, with residents hearing a loud blast and multiple emergency agencies responding immediately. Firefighters were able to bring the resulting fire under control, though video footage from KHOU 11 shows significant damage across portions of the facility.
At Least 3 Workers Treated for Explosion-Related Injuries
A City of Mont Belvieu spokesperson confirmed that three workers were injured and rushed to local hospitals. Their current conditions have not yet been released.
Officials report that there is currently no ongoing risk to the public, and nearby roads remain open. The cause of the explosion and fire is under active investigation.
This incident is one of at least 152 chemical accidents already reported in 2025, according the Coalition to Prevent Chemical Disasters, coming just days after an explosion at a Holiday Inn Express hotel construction site in downtown Houston and only months after the devastating blast at Smitty’s Supply plant in Roseland, Louisiana. Our team is proud to represent multiple workers injured in the Smitty’s Supply explosion.
