Atmos Energy Confirms Natural Gas Explosion in Hospital Boiler Room

Initial suspicions that natural gas played a role in the Coryell Memorial Hospital explosion have been confirmed.

“Atmos Energy, Mid-Tex reported a natural gas explosion within the boiler room of a hospital, which had been undergoing renovations,” Texas Railroad Commission spokesperson, Ramona Nye, said in an emailed statement issued Thursday. “Atmos reports that all natural gas mains leading to the hospital were isolated.”

Its not yet known what caused the natural gas to ignite. The Railroad Commission is working to determine if any pipeline safety rules were violated.
