2 Injured When Wrecker Truck Sets Off Fiery Crash in Polk County, Texas

Two people were rushed to the hospital yesterday morning, after a wrecker truck clipped an 18-wheeler, setting off a fiery 3-vehicle crash in Polk County, Texas.

Westbound Wrecker Struck Eastbound 18-Wheeler

The June 3rd accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. along U.S. Highway 190, near the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Hatch’s Wrecker Service rollback wrecker was heading west on the highway when it clipped the rear of an eastbound tractor-trailer.

The wrecker then collided head-on with another large commercial truck that was legally parked on the eastbound shoulder. Both trucks burst into flames and were destroyed in the crash.

Wrecker was Traveling Erratically Before Crash

The driver of the wrecker, a 25-year-old man from Call, Texas, and the driver of the third truck, a 30-year-old man from Livingston, Texas, were hurt but managed to escape the burning vehicles on their own. Paramedics transferred both victims to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital, where they received treatment for undisclosed injuries.

The 18-wheeler driver, a 33-year-old man from Winona, Texas, was not injured.

Witnesses later reported that the wrecker driver was operating his truck erratically and had veered left just before striking the 18-wheeler. According to Texas State Troopers, he faces a citation for driving on the wrong side of the road while not passing.
